Disclaimer: Not everyone who goes through menopause identifies as a woman and not all people who identify as women go through menopause. At Jayla, our core audience is people who identify as women, so we primarily use the word “women.” However, we’re working on specific content for people going through menopause who might not identify women. Jayla's medical advisor, Dr. Zoe Rodriguez shares more about her journey into medicine

Looking back on my journey to becoming an obstetrician-gynecologist (OB-GYN), I’m reminded of just how much of an impact healthcare providers can have on individuals and families. My passion for women’s health and wellness—and my desire to make a meaningful difference—are what drew me to this incredibly rewarding field.

My interest in women’s health stems from deeply personal experiences with people close to me. I think of my mother, who struggled with menstrual health, a close friend navigating her reproductive options, and another friend facing a diagnosis of a sexually transmitted infection. Seeing these challenges firsthand underscored the importance of compassionate, comprehensive care. These experiences sparked a strong desire to support women through life’s health challenges with care they can trust.

During medical school and residency, I explored a variety of specialties, but OB-GYN always stood out. The combination of medicine and surgery, and the ability to care for women throughout every stage of life, made it feel like the perfect fit. Even now, 25 years later, I’m amazed by how many of my patients have continued their care with me. Watching their children grow through yearly smartphone photo updates is one of the many joys of this field!

What I love most about being an OB-GYN is the privilege of sharing some of the most meaningful and intimate moments in a woman’s life. Whether it’s delivering a baby, performing a life-changing surgery, or providing menopause care, every day brings an opportunity to make a difference.

As an OB-GYN, I’m also deeply committed to advocating for women’s health and reproductive rights. Every woman deserves access to compassionate, comprehensive care, no matter her background or circumstances.

My journey to this profession has been fueled by a passion for women’s health and a commitment to making an impact. I feel fortunate to do work that allows me to combine science with empathy and care, and I look forward to continuing to support and empower women for many years to come.
